This study addresses the lack of an integrated and sustainable planning framework for Baghdad’s riverfront – focusing specifically on the Al-Adhamiyah and Al-Kadhimiyah districts. Using a three-tier analytical framework (design, planning, and environmental strategies), the research conducts a comparative spatial analysis of both areas and draws from global precedents such as the Sabarmati Riverfront (India) and Kansas Riverfront Revitalization (USA). Findings show that while Al-Kadhimiyah enjoys stronger spatial integration and investment potential, Al-Adhamiyah faces challenges of disjointed land use and limited public space. Based on this, the study proposes interconnected green corridors and enhanced river transport systems as localized strategies to re-integrate the Tigris into Baghdad’s urban life. These interventions aim not only to restore ecological and social connectivity, but also to transform the riverfront into a dynamic and inclusive urban landscape.
Noor Hussain Ali, Sajida Kadhim Al-Kindy, Zuhair A Nasar Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11418 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Progress and recent research of urban transportation in half of Asian Region: A systematic literature review https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/10305
Motives: Urban transportation is one of the most critical topics in transport geography due to the urbanization and growth of cities worldwide. There are four categories of topics in this study: (1) transportation and mobility, (2) transportation and land use, (3) transportation and urban spatial structure, and (4) transportation and disaster. The first topic continues to evolve through the four stages and influences the development of other issues. Meanwhile, the third topic only appeared in the third stage. The fourth topic only appeared in the fourth stage. In summary, this study offers alternative information and new insights into the trends and development of urban transportation studies in half of the Asian Region.
Arif Ashari, Muhamad Ervin, Mei Dwi Nurlita, Ayundha Anisha, Ma'riffat Ur-Rahma Anindyantari Putrikinasih, Bagas Syarifudin Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/10305 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 The role of the municipalities spatial policy in the space values protection of the Podlaskie voivodeship landscape parks https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/10366
Motives: Shaping spaces covered by the legal form of nature protection is a significant challenge. The preparation of local plans in such areas mainly aims to protect their valuable assets. Landscape parks of the Podlaskie province, i.e. Suwałki Landscape Park, Knyszyńska Forest Landscape Park and Łomża Landscape Park of the Narew Valley offer rich natural and landscape assets. On the other hand, their location in the vicinity of urban centres may cause adverse effects of anthropopression. Rational spatial policy allows for maintaining spatial order and respecting the principle of sustainable development. The lack of local and protection plans may contribute to reducing landscape and natural assets and even their degradation.
Aim: Analyse the planning status of selected landscape parks and verify their provisions in terms of guidelines from park protection plans.
Results: Low degree of coverage of selected landscape parks with local plans, except for Łomża Landscape Park. Local plans usually take into account the assumptions of existing protection plans.
Joanna Budnicka-Kosior Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/10366 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Transformation of the multi-owned housing stock management system: a case study of Uzbekistan https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11191
Motives: The housing management system in Uzbekistan faces significant inefficiencies in service delivery, infrastructure maintenance, and financial sustainability. Many multi-owned residential buildings, particularly those constructed during the Soviet period, require urgent renovations and modernization efforts. However, the fragmented nature of housing governance and the absence of effective regulatory mechanisms hinder the implementation of comprehensive management strategies.

Aim: The research focused on analyzing the transformation of the multi-owned housing stock management system in Uzbekistan, identifying key challenges, drivers, and opportunities for improvement. This research seeks to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the current state of housing governance and explore innovative management strategies that enhance efficiency, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.

Results: The research identifies key challenges and opportunities in transforming Uzbekistan’s multi-owned housing stock management system. The findings reveal persistent governance inefficiencies, financial instability, and limited adoption of digital technologies. Despite recent policy reforms, their impact remains ambiguous, and homeowner engagement in decision-making processes is low. The research highlights the urgent need for enhanced regulatory frameworks, increased financial transparency, digitalization of management processes, and sustainable housing practices. These results provide a foundation for recommendations aimed at improving efficiency, service quality, and long-term sustainability in the housing sector.
Khurshidjon Kakhramonov, Andrzej Muczyński Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11191 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Does age impact work-life balance? A generational perspective on remote work in Polish public institutions https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11020
Drawing on a cross-sectional survey of 165 unit heads in Polish public institutions, this study examines whether age (as a generational cohort) shapes managers’ work-life balance under remote work in Polish public institutions. A one-way ANOVA found no cohort differences across Baby Boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y. The main finding is that balance depends less on a manager’s age and more on how remote work is organized. Practices such as clear rules for availability, support for informal connections online, and sensible workload planning appear more helpful than age-targeted programs. The study contributes evidence that good remote-work design – not generational tailoring – is key to healthier work-life boundaries. Future studies should track changes over time and compare the public and private sectors to address the limitations of this research, including small, younger-cohort representation and the cross-sectional design.
Aygün Kam, Nguyet Luong Tran Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11020 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Defining safe investment boundaries in coastal areas: A planning tool for sustainable shoreline management https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11112
Motives: Due to human activities, shoreline transformation processes are accelerating. The existing policy to protect them often results in costly and inefficient public investments that protect private investments. Such a policy is not only questionable in terms of the rationality of public spending but also fuels a vicious circle—further investments accelerate erosion.
Aim: The objective of the study is to formulate guidelines for determining safe investment boundaries, grounded in the analysis of scientific research, legal frameworks, and case studies.
Results: The study has made it possible to formulate criteria for defining the safe investment boundaries in coastal areas, develop a set of recommendations for effectively implementing this tool, and contribute to rationalising investment processes in coastal areas.
Paulina Pałasz-Lange, Anna Golędzinowska Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11112 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Geostatistical methods of map preparation on the example of temperature distribution in Africa https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11055
The main aim of the study was to compare the different geostatistical methods used to map the spatial distribution of temperature and to select the optimal method using the example of maximum temperatures in Africa. An exploratory data analysis was carried out, including statistical tests, distribution verification, and identification of outliers. Maps were produced in ArcGIS Pro using deterministic (IDW, LPI) and stochastic (Kriging Ordinary, Kriging Simple, Kriging Universal, EBK) methods with different parameters. Validation was then carried out using the GIS Data Modelling Validator software, analysing the interpolation error parameters. The validation made it possible to compare the different methods and select the most effective one. Prediction, probability and error maps were developed for the selected method. The analysis carried out showed that the appropriate selection of the interpolation method is crucial for the accuracy and usability of the resulting maps. Several key research questions were posed to identify the optimal geostatistical method for spatial mapping of temperature distribution, using data from Africa as a case study. The effectiveness of various methods in this process was investigated, along with the parameters during the data modelling phase that have the greatest impact on the accuracy of temperature predictions. Additionally, an attempt was made to determine to what extent the presence of outliers influences interpolation results. A critical issue was also to establish which method provides the highest predictability and concordance with actual temperature measurements.
Patrycja Tarnowska, Marek Ogryzek, Eufemia Tarantino Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11055 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Towards zero waste: circular behaviors in Polish university student households https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11075
This article aims to provide knowledge about circular practices (behaviors) in students’ households. The application of attitude theory proved useful in the considerations as an organizational theoretical framework and for research purposes (creating the structure of the research tool). The authors present the results of quantitative research – a survey method. The research material was obtained through a survey technique and an online questionnaire research tool, from 567 students from 5 Polish higher education institutions (both public and private).
Building habits related to the circular economy (CE), the so-called micro-decisions (or “droplet” decisions), which are routinely made in one’s household, constitute an important step in shaping the circularity of this household and consequently support the transition of the entire economy from a linear to a circular model. Seemingly insignificant daily decisions (e.g., whether to drink tap water or buy bottled water, or whether to throw a book in the trash or give it to someone), when accumulated, have a profound meaning and lead to significant, holistic change.
The conclusions from the conducted research take the form of recommendations and identification of areas that require support in building circular households for young people. The research found that, the level of circularity of student households is highly diversified and depends on the type of activities and the infrastructural context (housing conditions), and there is a clear gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation of the principles of the CE, particularly visible in the area of food management and involvement in local ecological initiatives.
Justyna Trippner-Hrabi, Jacek Chądzyński, Pamela Jeziorska-Biel, Ewa Szafrańska Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11075 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Green planning of public spaces as a way to create a new image of medium-sized cities https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11077
Motives: Cities in today’s world are facing demographic challenges, social and economic problems, limited natural resources and the effects of climate change. In order to address these issues and create a healthier living environment, cities should prioritize sustainable urban planning, including consideration of green public space.
Aim: The aim of the study is to present changes in the design and development of public spaces in six selected cities, which have lost their traditional economic functions and are facing problems. Cities should design a new functional layout that is adapted to the new conditions. Special attention has been given to the transformation of public spaces as a way of shaping the contemporary image of cities.
Results: Cities should actively promote socially equitable and integrated urban planning. Green planning should take place in an inclusive manner to ensure that all residents have access to and can benefit from green public spaces. Green planning improves the quality of life for residents and increases the attractiveness of the city as a place to live, work and invest.
Małgorzata Twardzik, Dorota Rynio, Agnieszka Majorek-Gdula Copyright (c) 2025 Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 https://czasopisma.uwm.edu.pl/index.php/aspal/article/view/11077 Thu, 16 Oct 2025 00:00:00 +0000
