Abstract

The need to acquire spatial information leads to the development unmanned aerial photogrammetry. The technology of unmanned aircraft and the latest developments in the field of automated mapping techniques, provide an opportunity for collecting spatial data in a faster and cheaper way. This is a great convenience for local authorities and it is a coherent with the approach „fit-for-purpose”. This paper focuses on legal issues using unmanned aerial vehicles in Polish airspace. It presents national and European legal framework for operating civilian unmanned aircraft for the purpose of acquiring spatial data. The paper includes an analysis of formal and legal requirements of the unmanned aerial vehicle flight planning based on scenarios for urban areas and non-urban areas.
