Abstract
This article addresses the level of political awareness and basic knowledge of current politics among high school and university students in Warmia and Mazury. This research was motivated by the record-high turnout in the 2023 parliamentary elections, largely driven by the participation of young people and the high public interest this group has in the initial changes that have taken place since the new government began its term. The main research objective is to determine the level and sources of political awareness and knowledge of current politics among youth in Warmia and Mazury. The target group was students of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, as well as students of the Władysław Jagiełło School Complex No. 2 in Mrągowo and the Rodło School Complex of Economics and Commerce in Olsztyn. The research methods used by the authors in this work are: the political science method and the analysis and synthesis method, which present basic concepts in political science and current research. Quantitative and qualitative methods will also be used to collect and process data obtained through empirical research. The study answered the research question, indicating that students' level of political knowledge is relatively low, yet their civic or political awareness remains higher than among the surveyed students, whose level of engagement is virtually negligible. Meanwhile, the level of knowledge among students, despite low civic engagement and the use of the same information sources as students, is significantly higher, particularly on parliamentary issues.
