Abstract

The communal landfill site of waste other than hazardous and neutral in Liniewskie Góry ceased receiving waste in 2012. The functioning of landfill sites assumes that after their operation the value in use should be restored to them or they should be given new features. The landfill site was restored in the second half of 2013. This process had a multistage character and included a technical phase, i.e. proper formation of waste dump, and then preparation of restoration cover. Subsequently, the area was sown with pioneer vegetation within the biological restoration and planted with bushes widely used in restoration. The installation used for conducting landfill site monitoring was also restored – the restoration works involved creating leachate water drainage, sealed container for leachate collection, as well as landfill site degassing system. The chemical composition of ground waters is monitored by piezometers, while surveying benchmarks are used for control of landfill site subsidence. The restoration was carried out in order to minimise the negative impact of the landfill site on the environment, and the designated monitoring points shall be used for comprehensive and periodical assessment of possible changes in the environment caused by the landfill site in Liniewskie Góry.
