Abstract

Based on previously unknown archival material (Austrian National Library, ‘Austrian Society for Literature’), the aim of this paper is to show the development of Stanisław Lem’s residence in Vienna from 1983 to 1989 as well as to illustrate the close relationship between the Polish Science Fiction writer and the ‘Austrian Society for Literature’ (ÖGfL). The essay presents a delineation of the instruments concerning foreign cultural policy which the ÖGfL developed in the 1960s and which have proven time and again of their efficacy over the decades, as demonstrated by Stanisław Lem‘s case.
