ABOUT THE JOURNAL
The journal Prace Literaturoznawcze [in in the Scopus database] is published once a year. Prace Literaturoznawcze was established in 2013 at the initiative of the employees of the Institute of Polish Studies and Speech Therapy at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. This journal continues the publishing tradition of the Institute of Polish Studies at the second half of the last century. In the 1970s literary scholars had an opportunity to publish their papers in Prace Naukowo-Badawcze Zakładu Filologii Polskiej WSP w Olsztynie [Research Papers of the Department of Polish Studies of the College of Education in Olsztyn]. In the 1990s Professor Andrzej Staniszewski established another periodical Zeszyty Naukowe WSP. Prace Filologiczne [Research Bulletins of the College of Education. Philological Papers]. This journal published articles authored by literary scholars and linguists from that Department. In 1997 linguists set up their own journal Prace Językoznawcze [Papers in Linguistics] to create a platform for publishing their scholarly achievements as well as those from other academic centres. Prace Literaturoznawcze is a new periodical – the first issue appeared in 2013 and in 2015 it was included in the list of journals recommended by the Ministry of Higher Education and received 5 points. In 2019, it scored 40 points on the ministerial list and qualified for the "Scientific support for journals" program.
AIM AND THEMATIC RANGE
Prace Literaturoznawcze is a scholarly journal which publishes up-to-date research papers devoted to both Polish and foreign literature in various contexts: historical and theoretical, comparative, cultural and anthropological ones. It is a forum for presenting original research concerning contemporary literary and theatre criticism, past and modern literary culture, literature of Warmia and Mazury, popular literature and welcomes contemporary literature and specialist methodologies. Papers published in the journal constitute an inspiring voice for contemporary literary discourse. Thematic areas include: “Universal Values”, “In the Search of Form and Model of Interpretation”, “Themes and Forms of Women’s Writing”, “Genres”, and “Regional Topics”. Each issue additionally includes a set of reviews concerning outstanding critical and literary research papers written by academics from Olsztyn, as well as reports with respect to important meetings and conferences.
The deadline for sending articles
The recruitment of texts for the magazine takes place throughout the year. The deadline for submitting articles for the next year is the 31th December of the year that precedes the issue of the number for the following year. The editorial office is planning to publish annuals with leading topics.
The main theme of the fifteenth issue of Prace Literaturoznawcze (2027) will be “Between Locality and the Centre.” The issue aims to encourage renewed reflection on immediate spaces — neighbourhoods, regions, and local communities — as well as on the problems and tensions that define them. Contributions may address the influence of place (and non-place) on human identity, understood through Walter Benjamin’s figure of the “angel of history,” turned towards the future yet unable to escape the past. The issue also welcomes reflections on the categories of locality and belonging, considered both in opposition to the Centre and in symbiosis with it, as well as in relation to the world perceived from a global perspective.
We welcome submissions addressing the above themes, as well as others that may extend beyond the central topic, until 31 December 2026.
