The New Penal Canon Law – Future Prospects in the Time of Crisis

Crimes related to abuse of the weakest members of the Church have caused one of the most serious crises in the history of the Church. Among the various actions taken to overcome crisis situations, an important role is played by the amendment of the code book containing the provisions of penal canon law. The article examines the amended law in the light of the hopes and expectations of the faithful. The reform set the direction towards which the community would move, establishing and applying the law as an instrument for eliminating abuse and restoring justice.
