Pictures of the Post-Apocalyptic Man and World in Contemporary Polish Fantasy and Science Fiction Literature. Based on Komornik by Michał Gołkowski and Starość aksolotla by Jacek Dukaj

Aleksandra Maria Rybacka

Abstract

This paper presents the picture of the post-apocalyptic man and world based on Komornik
[Bailiff] by Michał Gołkowski and Starość aksolotla [The Old Axolotl] by Jacek Dukaj – the novels
written by two of the most popular Polish science fiction and fantasy writers. It shows the causes
of the apocalypse in these books and how the post-apocalyptic world is changing. It also describes
and analyses the motives behind the protagonists’ approach, what they are missing and how they
affect the post-apocalyptic world.
