THE SITUATION OF CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY ON THE GROUNDS OF THE SENSTENCE OF EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND RUSSIAN RELIGION LAW

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present violation of article 9 of the European Convention on Human
Rights (freedom of religion) based on the registration of Church of Scientology in St Petersburg. We can find here not only the analysis of motives of Russian Federation (religion law), but also the motives of the Council of Europe (policy towards Russian Federation, the European Convention
on Human Rights e.g. definition of religion).
The article focuses mainly on: Russian religion law, the sentence of the European Court of Human Rights regarding the situation of Church of Scientology in St Petersburg and enforcement of the judgment. It will constitute the basis for an attempt to answer the question about religious freedom in the Russian Federation.
