Abstract

The article examines the support provided to the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UPR) in exile by Western European partners during the 1920s and 1930s. Drawing on an analysis of materials from the periodical Tryzub, the article explores the key
activities of the UPR government in exile following its defeat in the national liberation struggles of 1917–1921. The author examines the diplomatic, informational, and organizational efforts of the Ukrainian political émigrés aimed at securing the support of European states to restore Ukrainian statehood. The article illustrates how “Tryzub” portrayed engagement with European countries, including its coverage of Ukrainian history, efforts to counter bolshevik propaganda, and steps toward integration into international structures. It also addresses the challenges posed by political
fragmentation and external influences, alongside the achievements in maintaining the Ukrainian cause on the international stage. The article draws parallels between the historical experience of the UPR and Ukraine’s present need for comprehensive support amid the Russo-Ukrainian War, underscoring the relevance of past lessons for bolstering the state’s position today.
