Abstrakt

The aim of this article is to show the main aspects of Vladimir Maksimov’s publicism. An interesting and rich publicistic journey of the author of Saga about the rhinoceroses started in France where one of the greatest journals of the Russian emigration „The Continent” was created by the writer. Throughout the years The Editor 's column was the place of sharp and uncompromi sing speeches. The publicism of the author of The Seven Days o f Creation is mainly of political character. The theme of the majority of his articles is a grim struggle with communism, totalitarian dictatorship, atheistic ideas. Maksimov jeered at the conformism and triteness of the western intellectuals’ thinking , their nad’ve belief in the utopia „of socialism with a human face”. He also criticized the western nihilism, moral lapse, lack of faith and universal principles. The publicist warned that „the USSR of today” could become „the tomorrow of the West” in the future. The last his years of life Maksimov devoted first of all to publicism. From the very outset social and political changes in his native country gladdened the writer. But after the breakdown of the empire Maksimov could not admit that „the coup d’état” was of benefit above of all to the former communists and the present-day system appeared to be worse than the previous one. The chaos of the post Soviet reality, politicians’ boorishness and lack of talent, general corruption, the poverty of the society - all this encouraged the editor of „The Continent” to pursue the publicistic activity.
