Abstract

Most of the historic buildings in the Archdiocese of Warmia require conservation work, but their restoration is impeded by a constant lack of funds. Parishes are generally unable to finance conservations projects, and they apply for grants from local and national funds. In 2015–2019, conservation, restoration and repair works were conducted on church roofs, ceilings, façades, foundations, floors, pillars, interior galleries, stained glass windows, window and door frames, pulpits, statues, paintings, altars, polychrome artwork, and pipe organs. Several historic buildings were registered as historic landmarks in an attempt to protect the cultural heritage. Expert assessments were also commissioned to guarantee that the historical value of the buildings administered by the Archdiocese of Warmia is adequately preserved during the restoration effort. The Regional Office for the Preservation of Historic Monuments in Olsztyn issued specific guidelines for the restoration program as part of a comprehensive policy for preserving religious heritage buildings in Poland.
