Abstract

The United Agricultural Convention Association, an organization of Eastern Galician landowners established by Jan Emanuel Rozwadowski, was founded in Lviv in 1907. The association has been largely neglected in historical research to date. Karol Krusenstern, a landowner, entrepreneur and the owner of the Niemirów health resort, devoted considerable attention to the association in his memoirs entitled My Diary. The presented excerpt from Krusenstern’s memoirs presents the most important information about the United Association, including its origins, goals, means of operation, accomplishments, and leading activists. The author was a secretary of the United Agricultural Convention Association II, and his memoirs paint an interesting portrait of the organization’s members and provide a unique glimpse into behind-the-scene activities during agricultural conventions. Krusenstern reported on the association’s cooperation with the Society of Landowners’ Associations and its penetration of organizations operating in Galicia (such as the Galician Economic Society). He also described the links between the United Circles and the National Democracy political camp.
