Abstract

The hundredth anniversary of the Treaty of Riga is an excellent opportunity to commemorate the opinions, reflections and memories of the inhabitants of Polish territories that were ceded to Soviet Russia on 18 March 1921. One of them was Michał Kryspin Pawlikowski, journalist and civil officer of Minsk governorate. His views, often formulated after World War II, were devoid of excessive sentimentalism and pathos. Pawlikowski’s opinions and judgements are as valid as they were a century ago. Pawlikowski espoused his beliefs in two autobiographical novels, numerous press articles and other publications. The work of Michał Kryspin Pawlikowski, a keen observer of political and social life in the first half of the 20th century, has attracted considerable popularity in the last decade, which is highly satisfactory.
