Abstract

Main thezis of this atricle goes along with philosophy of Democritus, man who spent his life considering what measure is. Taking as a starting point a category of measure as it was understood in the ancient world, we are able to show similarities between theories run not only by Democritus, but also Epicurus and Pythagoras. Democritus had built the interpretation - showing what connect space and boundlessness. Doing this he said that total blank has its own borders, because compared with variety of measure, creates specific structures based on contrast. As a result we have got situation when space and blank or vacuum could have had one measure. The fruit of thinking in this way is Democritus theory saying: something unknown invisible can be as representative as known and named. The essential of Democritus thinking is that he refused atom to be base of very world, as Epicurus did. Democritus claimed it exists, but it is just one kind of measure. Atom is a border, atom is an ancient peras. There we have an idea which give us occasion to discus about philosop hy of Democritus, Epicurus and Pythagoras. This is only part of reflections explained in the article. But all are fruit of meaning and variety of definitions based on measure taken as key word to the philosophy of Democritus.
