The Attempt at Doing Distinction between Terms: Political Geography and Geopolitics

Abstract

The geopolitics is a typically modem phenomenon which appeared at the turn of the 19th and 20th century - in the epoch of colonial expansions. The term „geopolitics” itself was created in that time by R. Kjellen. As for the political terminology there are many different definitions of the geopolitics. The term „geopolitics” is used interchangeably with the term „political geography” which can cause misunderstanding. A lot of Anglosaxon concepcts, traditionaly determined as geopolitical are rather geographical and political ones. The classical projects of deceptive political geography - geopolitics, appeared in German political though at the beginning at the 20th century and still exists in the contemoporary concepts of Russian nationalists.
