This article presents a view of Paul Ricoeur’s approach to practical wisdom. The main aim is to check how his proposition enables an assessment of the phenomena which adversely affect our critical abilities; this assessment is presented in the light of the views of other contemporary thinkers, such as Alasdair MacIntyre and Charles Taylor. The analysis conducted shows that practical wisdom creates a vision of the good life, builds bonds of friendship, and demands implementation of justice idea in a theological way. Confrontation of the issues approached by Ricoeur with the specificity of the culture of neutral liberalism makes it possible to state that, nowadays, the possibility of questioning one's moral judgments has been limited, which is the basic skill of phrónimos – the practically wise man.
