Abstract

. G. Herder is, beyond all doubt, one of the greatest personages of the German Enlightment. This poet, writer, theologian and a bishop of the Evangelical Church, was among those thinkers whose ideas had a profound influence on the development of European culture. The speculations contained in this paper concentrate on J, G. Herder as a pedagogue. They constitute an attempt to present his pedagogic ideas, combined with his philosophical and theological views. Such an attitute finds its reflection in Herder's pedagogic thought, expressed by his aspirations to shape a harmonious and universal man, as far as the intellectual, physical, esthetic, moral and patriotic aspects of his existence are concerned.
