Abstract

The idea o f placing a botanical garden in Olsztyn originated in the 1960s. In 2014, there was a plan to locate the garden in the area located 2.5 km from the city centre, on the former military training grounds. Such a garden would be the biggest “green” complex in Olsztyn, with its total area surpassing Olsztyn’s Central Park and other district parks. According to the plan, following zones will be placed: botanical collections, historical gardens, natural healing garden which would be adjacent to a rehabilitation centre, sensory gardens, collections o f medicinal and utility plants. Around the inner reservoir and along the coastline of Kortowskie Lake, there will be jetties and collections o f hydrophytes. In the planned cubatural objects, a neutral architecture was suggested - transparent in the context o f scenery and blending in the garden space with an appropriae scale, proportions and materials.
