Abstract

The aim of this article is a critical analysis of selected neuroimaging data about sleep in the context of specificity of dreaming mind. The combination of hemodynamic, magnetic, phenomenological, and cognitive data allows the distinction of four specific types of mind during sleep. Thanks to this overall vision of the brain/mind in sleep, typically confined to the distinction NREM/REM sleep, is more adequate. In addition, cognitive interpretation of neuroimaging data allows to determine the possible adaptive functions of the sleeping mind.
