So Few, So Many…

Krystyna Nowosielska

Abstract

Some selected demographic problems of the contemporary world were analysed in the paper. The Malthus’ theory was a starting point for the analysis. The reasons for the present population-rate and its growth on the continents were discussed together with the following issues: an analysis of individual countries according to the criterion of lifetime, the number of elderly people, the number of children aged 1415, the number of children per woman and its correlation with the education level of women. The demographic situation of Poland was also presented - it was shown that our country occupies a position between developed and developing countries. Some other problems included in the paper are: the stages of demographic transformation, ecological conditions and dynamic balance.
