Abstract

Succession law in the United Kingdom is a specific form of inheritance law, the subject of which is the function of the head of state. In the early period of the existence of the state, the way to power was often military victory and the unwritten rule of primogeniture. During the reign of the Tudor dynasty, the correction in the line of succession was made by the monarch, who could also decide the fate of the crown in the will. This power was initially sanctioned by Acts of Parliament, but the developing parliamentary system aimed at permanently normalizing the law of succession and limiting the powers of the king. As a result, the Bill of Rights was passed, which permanently defined the order of succession and negative religious prerequisites for the accession to the throne. The Bill of Rights was supplemented by the Act of Settlement, which comprehensively systematized the line of succession. Significant changes were introduced only in 2013 under the Succession to the Crown Act, which introduced the order of succession based on the absolute primogeniture rule. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the historical development of succession law in Great Britain and the triads of current succession laws.
