Abstract

The aim of this article is an attempt to contextually analyse the American sitcom Married… with Children for its political and ideological content. Despite the political plots in discussed sitcom, which is a part of so-called politicotainment trend, have rather secondary position to its main content, they concern important, more than once-thorny issues. Law and moral rules violated by politicians (personal favours, promiscuity of manners), paradoxes of modern American neoconservatism, as well as the freedom of media and freedom of expression belong to the above-mentioned group of plots. Married… with Children series was a breakpoint in the so-far stereotypical displaying of family relationships in the American entertainment industry. Revealing pathology in family functioning, a sexist approach to female and male social roles and the primacy of feminist organizations in social life should be mentioned between its ideological plots.
