Dear Colleagues,

We invite submissions of abstracts for a special issue of The Review of Psychology dedicated to the psychological and social consequences of artificial intelligence development.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years, particularly in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, and robotics, has significantly transformed various aspects of human life, including how we work and communicate. Released in November 2022 by OpenAI, the conversational bot ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) became the most rapidly downloaded application in history. ChatGPT, along with other tools using generative artificial intelligence, is reshaping psychology by influencing how psychologists conduct research, teach, diagnose, and treat patients. These tools, which allow for the collection and analysis of patterns in large datasets, modeling cognitive processes, and offering personalized mental health interventions, are not only altering our understanding of human behavior and cognition but also enabling the generation of new research and clinical hypotheses.

The planned special issue aims to highlight the psychological and social consequences of AI becoming an integral part of our daily lives. We invite submissions addressing both the use of AI in scientific research and clinical practice, as well as studies on how people of different ages engage with AI and the consequences of this interaction.

Possible thematic areas/problems for the special issue:

• What does the development of artificial intelligence reveal about the nature of natural intelligence?
• Are large language models merely "stochastic parrots" (Bender et al., 2021), generating text without understanding its content?
• The use of large language models as models of cognitive processes and in agent-based modeling
• The application of machine learning techniques to collect and analyze behavioral data
• The use of AI and AI-based mobile applications in mental health care, including the application of chatbots in therapy and diagnosis
• Creating personalized interventions for patients using AI
• What are the benefits and risks of using AI, for example, in education and recruitment processes?
• Human-computer interactions, including interactions with robots
• Ethical aspects of using AI
• Regulations and recommendations regarding the use of AI in scientific research, clinical practice, and diagnosis.
