The article analyses the legal acts concerning the Ukrainian issue, which were promulgated during the parliamentary sessions of 1635. The frst parliamentary session, convened under standard procedure, adopted a hard-line approach towards the Cossacks with the aim of ending Cossack expeditions to the Black Sea. Separate laws were passed ordering the registration of 7000 Cossack soldiers and the construction of a fortress on the Dnieper River. The second extraordinary session of the parliament was held to ratify the Polish-Swedish truce, the Cossack problem was recognized, but the relevant laws were not adopted. The article postulates that the parliamentary me-asures were adopted to serve a specifc purpose without wider consideration of the Cossack problem, which subsequently led to the Cossack uprisings of 1637–1638.
