Farmers’ Self-Help Union in the Olsztyn region (1945-1948). The beginnings of class politics

Abstract

The article analyzes the role of the Farmers’ Self-Help Union (FSU) in the implementation of communist policies in rural areas of the Olsztyn region in 1945–1948. The author discusses the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the FSU and the Farmers’ Cooperative, government policies targeting farmers, and the implementation of the socialist doctrine which aimed to separate agricultural workers based on the size of their farmsteads, provide less affluent farmers with privileged access to resources and discriminate wealthy farmers.
