The paper analyzes the correspondence between C. Vietinghoff and A. Thouin concerning the exchange of seeds and plants between the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and the botanical garden in Marienbourg. The article also discusses a scientific expedition to the Caucasus led by Vietinghoff, the history of the collection of dried plant specimens gathered during the expedition (Hortus siccus caucasicus) and Vietinghoff’s attempts to publish a scientific treatise on the indigenous flora of the Caucasus. The presented correspondence provides valuable insights into the history of science in the Baltic countries, and it is analyzed in the political context and from the point of view of the history of science.
