Abstract

review of selected English-language publications of the 19th century indicates that Stanisław Konarski was a familiar figure to the readers of books or periodicals published in English
in the British Isles and on the other side of the Atlantic. Printed materials made frequent references to this Piarist monk. Konarski was portrayed as an eminent figure and an honored champion of the Polish Enlightenment. His work as an education reformer and his journalistic achievements attracted the greatest attention. However, very few published reports provided an in-depth analysis of his accomplishments. Evidently, there was little demand for more detailed information about the founder of Collegium Nobilium. English-language readers could glean the most exhaustive and reliable information about Konarski from the publications penned by Polish authors, including translations and reprints of fragments of his works that had been previously published in Polish, as well as the works originally published in English.
