Abstract

In the Polish People’s Republic, Regional Defense Committees were established to control and manage the respective Polish voivodeships (regions) in time of war, and to organize territorial and civilian defense units and prepare them for combat. In time of war or direct threat to national security, defense units were to be stationed in secret, camouflaged locations that met relatively stringent security requirements. Regional Defense Committees were tasked with preparing and planning the location of command posts in defense units. The Security Service conducted counterintelligence activities to keep the location and purpose of command posts in strict confidence. This article analyzes Security Service archives to determine the criteria for selecting the location of command posts (including educational institutions), and it describes the importance of the project at the level of central and local administration.
