Abstract

At the beginning of 1621, Hans Georg von Arnim, Georg Friedrich von Kreytzen and Ernst Georg von Sparr received patents for drafting men for military service in the German infantry and reiter troops. Arnim recruited his unit in Ducal Prussia, but the conscription process moved slowly, and the regiment did not take part in the Battle of Chocim. Some of the reiters conscripted by Kreytzen and Sparr in the New March rebelled, and having received three months’ pay, returned to Brandenburg. However, Kreytzen and his unit of 300 reiters reached Chocim on 1 October 1 1621, several days before the signing of the Polish-Turkish settlement.
