Rituals as the Collective Memory Practices (The Chosen Problems of Generational Transmission)

Abstract

In the paper author takes the rituals meaning issues as the memory practices. The rituals constitute an important dimension of cultural and social memory, at the same time they create a “conveyor belt” in supporting of generational continuity. The chosen results of sociological researches, connected with mixed rituals – commemoration rituals and the patriotic ceremonies are the empirical exemplifications. In these rituals connected with secular sacrum often comes out the religious sacrum that enhances their meaning. The results of own, sociological researches conducted among mature young people and their parents in the end of the first decade of XXIst age and the representative researches of polish society were the basis of  reflection.
