Abstract

The author of present paper describes selected features of culture-related texts from the times of the PRL (the Polish People’s Republic) and their functions in the modern social communication space. Iconic quotes from Polish films, e.g. Stawka większa niż życie ([Stakes Larger Than Life], 1967–1969), Miś ([Little Bear], 1981), Seksmisja ([Sexmission], 1983) or Rozmowy kontrolowane ([Controlled Calls], 1991), etc. are still alive and have not become obsolete despite the passage of time. On the basis of the modern culture-related texts (such as press articles), one can see the ways those old texts are employed in the social communication space and public discourse referring to various issues. They can be spotted in political debates, discussions concerning international economic relationships, legal issues, as well as sports, film, and viewpoint-related topics. They are most often employed in their original version, but sometimes they are subjected to modifications, for instance: lexical modifications which preserve the main semantic range of the primary text; grammatical modifications, etc. The analysed culture-related texts undergo various modifications thanks to which recipients can develop new interpretations. As a result, they identify new lexical fields (modified in comparison with the primary field).
