Abstract

The media is an inherent element of the landscape in the contemporary world. It influences almost all spheres of social life in an unusually intense manner, which is particularly pronounced in the world of politics. It could be said that its condition heavily influences the condition of democracy. However, even in the most democratic societies, the media is not independent. To some extent, they tend to be subordinated to their main sponsors. For public media, it is the control of the state and, as a result, media employees have to take into account the views of state representatives and politicians. In Poland, the changes in the top establishment always entail personnel changes in public radio and television. As their bosses are changed, different journalists are employed and dismissed. However, the scale of dismissals has never been so large as it is now. Will it be possible, after passing the “small” and the “big” media law by the government and, after the reform of the Polish public media, (which has recently resulted in often unjustified dismissals of journalists, editors and programme hosts) to guarantee the freedom of the media and journalists? The following article serves as a reflection on the current situation of Polish media, both the public and private media, which have been put to the most difficult test in years for their informational credibility and media absorbency after the “good-change” was launched.
