Abstract

The theory created by Pierre Bourdieu pictorially explains the world through the prism of exclusive, self-determining fields that constantly interact with each other. When you look at one piece of this complex jigsaw puzzle ‒ namely the field within culture, which is made up of scientific and artistic fields ‒ it is worth asking yourself what condition its elements are in today. The way of consuming the products of culture has become unrecognizable ‒ it is enough to cite the example of private universities, the phenomenon known as crowdfunding, or writer-celebrates appearing in advertisements. So can we talk about spaces separate from power, economy or media, such as art or “academy”? The author, using the example of contemporary Polish literary creation, tries to answer the question of whether the field theory proposed by Bourdieu is applicable in todayʼs constantly changing world.
