Abstract

This article describes radio documentaries by the Polish Radio Łódź journalist Joanna Sikorzanka on the subject of Jewish Łódź. Walking in the streets where Jews once lived, exploring the area where the ghetto was located, she tries to build a memory bridge between the past and present. The aim of the article is to discuss a series of articles on the topic of Jewish Łódź, with particular emphasis on the style of radio documentaries, the method of organizing audial material, building dramaturgy, as well as the technique of work – the way of making a recording or the way of talking with the characters. The theoretical basis for the considerations about the acoustic space of contemporary Łódź are issues related to the soundscape. The analysis of the poetics of radio stories and a comparative analysis allows enriching interdisciplinary deliberations on the city’s soundscape with knowledge of the theory of radio documentary.

Four radio works are discussed in the text: a triptych on the traces of the ghetto „www.slady”, „ślady-reaktywacja” i „po śladach”, along with „Czarni chytrzy”.
