The Metaphysical Portrait of Love in The Good-Morrow by John Donne

Dorota Gładkowska

Abstract

The Good-Morrow glorifies love by focusing on its absoute values. The poem cocsists of three parts relating to the lovers" past, presence and future. Love described by Donne is definitely metaphysical, as it removes the boundary between earthly life and the afterlife by defeating death and creating a special being that encompasses not only material but also immaterial space.
