The scriptorium of the Cistercian monastery in Mogiła is one of the most widely researched monastic writing chambers that has been described in three books. The abundance of source materials presents new research opportunities and challenges. An analysis of the scriptorium’s operations in the 13th century indicates that the copied monastic scripts were of very high quality. Most documents relating to the mo-nastery in Mogiła had been developed in its scriptorium which was commissioned for use in 1223 in the frst years of the monastery’s existence. By the 16th century, hand--copied manuscripts had become obsolete with the invention of the printing press.
