Abstract

The analyzed sources describe eleven Teutonic military expeditions (razzias) that severely affected Drohiczyn Land between 1370 and 1410, leaving no part of the region untouchedneither the regional capital of Drohiczyn nor towns such as Suraż, Bielsk, and Mielnik. Six of the razzias (conducted in 1373, 1376, 1377, winter of 1379, summer of 1379, and 1394) may be classified as relatively large-scale expeditions involving approximately 100, 200, 500, or 600 troops, although they were led solely by the Komtur (commander) of Balga. Only three razzias (1370, 1392, and 1410) can be regarded as major expeditions, conducted by the Grand Marshal. Western European participants can be identified only in two cases (the winter raid of 1379 and the September raid of 1392)
