Abstract

The article examines a Latin epitaph of Maria Luisa von der Groeben (1711-1741) on the exterior facade of the church in Boguchławy (in the historical region of Oberland), which has not previously been documented in the scholarly literature. The inscription was authored and commissioned by Georg Heinrich von der Groeben (1701-1759), Maria's husband, heir to the nearby entail in Ponarien, and a member of one of the most prominent and affluent noble families of Prussia. The funerary epigraph provides valuable new information about the von der Groeben family. The source analysis indicates that the epitaph in Boguchwały makes an important contribution to the existing knowledge of the Ponarien branch of the von der Groeben family, enabling a more complete reconstruction of the genealogy of this lineage
