Abstract

The Congregation of St. Michael the Archangel was founded in 1921 under diocesan law. Despite low membership, the congregation conducted apostolic work not only in Poland, but also in other countries, including Africa (1980–1991). Interestingly, the number of vocations and novices increased with a rise in the number of apostolic missions. The congregation of the Michaelite Fathers was established in Poland, and its members were Polish. Foreign missions led to the recruitment of foreigners, and the apostleship was shared by Poles and Africans. Missionaries undertake linguistic and cultural studies that enable them to gradually adapt to the new environment. Properly managed apostolic work necessitates regular communication between the diocese and religious congregations. Effective organization helped spread the ideas and the spiritual gift of Blessed Father Bronisław Markiewicz, and it delivered tangible results by increasing the number of monastic and priestly vocations.
