Abstract

The author analyzes the Polish educational system for foreigners on the example of Senegalese citizens in the last decades of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st century. In addition to the available source materials, publications and legal acts, the author also relied on surveys of Senegalese graduates of Polish universities. The article presents the history and evolution of the higher education system for foreign students in Poland, beginning from the first half of the 1950s to the establishment of the National Academic Exchange Agency (NAEA). The legal status of foreign students and Polish-Senegalese relations are also discussed. The number of Senegalese students in Polish universities in Poland was always low, if not negligent. The author posits that Senegalese citizens should be encouraged to pursue a higher education in Poland to generate mutual benefits for both countries in the long term.
