The paper constitutes an attempt to analyse mind from the point of view of sociobiology. On the very foundation of sociobiology, as well as modern theory of evolution, lies the conviction that mind has a practical function. Intellect came into being and it has developed along with human brain and it has considerable values of adaptability since the whole world of human culture exists through its intervention. Bearing in mind such formulated way of understanding the mind one can ask three given questions: How did it happen that the mind sprang up? What for did it come into being? What is the core of its value of adaptability?
While answering the questions presented above the author refers to the argumentation of sociobiologists such as: E. O. Wilson and C. J. Lumsden and to the concept of genetic dualism introduced by K. Popper.
We can recapitulate these considerations by paraphrasing the famous Cartesian motto: ,,I think therefore I am” into ,,I am therefore I think and my thoughts depend on the way I am”.
