„I Can See This Future World Already”. Emancipation, Ecology, and Utopian Imagination in the Rok 2200 by Wanda Melcer

Kinga Wyskiel-Szandecka

Abstract

The article proposes a reading of Wanda Melcer’s forgotten short story Rok 2200, published

in 1927 in the magazine “Bluszcz”. The author reads the work in the context of modern

changes in the understanding of nature and

femininity, and also points to utopian elements

in Melcer’s imagination. Thus, it is proposed

to look at the text as an example not only of

female sensitivity, but also an important voice

in the twentieth-century discussion on the relationship of man to nature and its significance

for him.
