The Origin of Nihilism and the Early Dispute on German Idealism at the Turn of the 18th and 19th Century

Abstract

The article is reconstruction and analysis of the early phase of disputes about the nihilism. The essential problem in the paper constitutes the bond between the development of the nihilism and many varieties of the German idealism at the turn of the 18th and 19th century. The first part of the article is devoted to the research on the genesis of comprehending the nihilism. The second part concerns the reception of the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and the accusations of the nihilism directed against it. In the third part the author takes the problem of the pantheism controversy. F. H. Jacobi was a chief initiator of many philosophical debates taking place then. His philosophy of the faith (Glaubensphilosophie) was returned against all idealism and the rationalism. A problem of the reception of philosophy of B. Spinoza in the tradition of German enlightening was taken in historical and philosophical inquiry. Pantheism of Spinoza was a an important source of atheism and nihilism controversy.
