Ethical Dilemmas in XX Century : Cloning

Wojciech Słomski

Abstract

If it is allowed to regard cloning of the human being as admissible from the moral point of view? In order to answer this question, I differentiate between natural, therapeutic and experimental cloning, as well as the cloning resulting from the pure curiosity of the researcher. I also try to give reasons for the statement that the dispute on moral aspects of cloning is the duty of the philosopher for it requires the use of notional equipment of philosophy. Subsequently I discuss some ethical questions resulting from different purposes of cloning. In the last part of my article I point out that the participants of the contemporary dispute on cloning find in very difficult to understand the apprehension presented by another party. I try to substantiate the thesis that the main reason of the incapacity of communication is the lack of discussion on the concept of the human being living in the world that changes faster and faster due to the progress of science.
