The main idea of the article is expressed in the following thesis: in his book The Origin o f Species Darwin used two concepts of evolution - an idealized (theoretical) one and a real (empirical) one. Such an interpretation is of an essentialidealizational character and is different from the traditional interpretation of Darwin’s book. It gives better approximations in the understanding of the phenomenon and mechanism of evolution then the phenomenalistic concepts such as, for instance, gradualism and the theory of punctuated equlibrium.
