The text concerns the issue of creativity ant the artist’s personality in the light of a selection of 20th century theories, including psychoanalysis, analytical and existential psychology. Creativity can be a way to solve a conflict and a transformation of sexual energy (S. Freud), a form of psychological defence and reconstruction of one’s self (O. Rank), an act of harmonizing with one’s “shadow” and an expression of the archetype (C. G. Jung), a way to surpass one’s personality (K. Dąbrowski), as well as a mystical bond between the subject and the object, and an existential psychosynthesis (H. Elzenberg).
