Social Participation in Selected Polish Cities as an Instrument of Social Communication

Abstract

This article analyses the phenomenon of social participation as an instrument of communication in selected localities. The main focus of the paper is on the phenomenon of social participation as a process which affects the management of places by citizens. In the article, various definitions such as social participation as well as civil society and social communication are presented. The cities selected for the analysis of social participation include: Szczecin, Poznań, Kraków, Warsaw and Łódź. The selected initiatives include: Youth City Council, Municipal Program for Revitalisation, Cracow Smog Alarm, public participation in the spatial planning of one of the central points in the capital city and the civic budget. Based on the given examples, the main conclusions about the phenomenon of social participation were formulated.
