Abstract

The movie Rejs (1970, by Marek Piwowski) is a feature with a dual scale. Macro: a study of universal mechanisms of the alienation of human communities. Micro: a study of the holiday mentality in 1960s Communist Poland. What was referred to at the time as “alienation” explains why the jump from learning a marching step to a human pyramid leads to a nightmarish masquerade within the setting of a river cruise.
