Abstract

“Interactivity”, a result of technological development of the media, is currently one of its most important features. The breakdown of the “users” and “participants” of the media can be broken down into age groups and groups with different technological levels. Among “users” dominate television viewers 55+, “participants” are mainly people belonging to two groups: from 18 to 24 and from 25 to 34 years old, declaring being increasingly uninterested in the passive reception of television and focused on “cocreation” of the media. These rules also apply to all types of film. In spite of the post-2010 attempts, the interactive documentary did not develop as fast as anticipated. Based on the researcher’s work, interviews with filmmakers and the experience of participating in professional discussions, the author of the paper puts forward hypotheses, both on the reasons for this state of affairs and on the future of this genre in the media market.
